I’ll just paraphrase the “out of line” statement here:
“Ah, dirty (dirty)
Filthy (filthy)
Nasty (ho), Christina Nebraska, you nasty? (yeah)
Too dirty to clean my act up
If you ain’t dirty
You ain’t here to party”
Ok, that isn’t a direct quote from Missouri’s Chase Daniel. I believe it went something like this:
“Nebraska was definitely one of the dirtiest teams I’ve played. You’ve got to settle it on the field, and I think we more than did that tonight.”
I prefer the first version…but whatever. The point is that Daniel called Nebraska dirty, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel doesn’t think that Daniel said anything out of line, and Nebraska coach Bo Pelini is upset.
Actually, I think he wants to make Daniel sing. Not sing raunchy pop songs…I mean sing as in tell him why he called Nebraska dirty. Daniel alleged that
during warm-ups, one of the Nebraska players actually came over and spit on him, but he won’t name names. Pelini called that “unacceptable” if it was true, but also says that in reviewing the tapes of the game, he didn’t see anything dirty about it.
Regardless, Daniel had another great day, throwing 18-for-23 for over 250 yards and three touchdowns. He didn’t even play during the entire second half. This game was the first time Missouri won against Nebraska in Lincoln in three decades. The final score was 52-17. Ouch.
So in watching the game, did you think it was dirty? Leave a comment below telling me why or why not.

He puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch Craig Littlepage thought of something he hadn’t before!
Maybe Christmas school spirt, he thought, doesn’t come from a store.
Maybe Christmas a banner… perhaps… means a little bit more!
And what happened then?
Well, in Whoville Virginia they say
That the Grinch’s Craig Littlepage’s small heart grew three sizes that day.
And then the true meaning of Christmas school spirit came through
and the Grinch team found the strength for ten Grinches touchdowns plus two.
Whether the abolishment of the banner ban in Virginia will really help them turn around this losing season and win today over Maryland is doubtful (and 12 touchdowns? I don’t think so!), but I will say this - without the support of your school, what is the point?

Wisconsin announced last night that they were suspended the band - the entire band - indefinitely. They’re investigating all members on allegations of hazing, alcohol abuse, and sexual misconduct. Eek.
Mike Leckron, the band director, made the decision along with university officials, after realizing that they were repeating behaviors that put them on probation in 2006. Leckron says that not everyone was involved, but until they get to the bottom of who was involved, the band will not perform.
In 2006, the borderline-illegal activities all surrounded a rowdy band trip. They allegedly were dancing with little clothing, as well as making women kiss other women before being allowed to enter the bathroom on the bus.
Does this have an impact on the football game? Definitely. The band is part of the whole college football atmosphere, and when you’re team isn’t supported, the entire mood is changed. I’m not saying that lack of a band could cause a team to lose, but it definitely could contribute to a loss.
Some band members will be giving a warning, while others may face expulsion. So yeah, this is serious. While I do think that a little hazing never hurt anyone, sometimes it is taken too far, which sounds like the case here. Hopefully, investigators will get to the bottom of things quickly so that the innocent members can get back to supporting the Badgers.

This weekend, Northwestern beat Iowa 22-17, giving them the best start they’ve had in 46 years.
Iowa’s Ricky Stanzi (see left) and the rest of the Iowa team just couldn’t get moving against Northwestern.
They’re one of the few teams to be 5-0, yet they aren’t on the top 25 list. Is this team underrated? So far, here’s how their season has gone:
-
Week One: Syracuse, 30-10 (home)
-
Week Two: Duke, 24-20 (away)
-
Week Three: Southern Illinois, 33-7 (home)
-
Week Four: Ohio, 16-8 (home)
-
Week Five: Iowa, 22-17 (away)
And here’s how the rest of their schedule looks:
Ok, now I don’t think there is any disputing the fact that these last seven games will all be harder than the first five. Still, Ohio hasn’t bee horrible this
year, regardless of their crappy record - they held their own against Ohio State and Wyoming. Even Duke hasn’t been playing as badly as usual. This week, they beat Virginia 31-3.
So, although I don’t think that Northwester will be able to win out against Michigan State or many of the other team on the schedule, they aren’t horrible. Teams like Purdue and Indiana may find themselves surprised by Northwestern this season, and we should see them slide into the top 25.

Every Monday night, I’ll be highlighting one of the game’s players’ college careers, so stop back every week to check out some “back in the day” stats about current NFL players. For more in NFL football news, check out b5’s
Every Morning Quarterback.
Tonight’s Spotlight: Willie Parker
Current Team, Number, Position: Pittsburgh Steelers, 39, Running Back
Current Stats: Near the end of last season, he broke his leg, so he’s been sharing time with Rashard Mendenhall and other players.
In the first game of the year, against the Texans, he rushed for 138 yards and a career-high 3 touchdowns - and that was before he was pulled out (along with a number of other starters) at the end of the 3rd quarter. He was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
College: North Carolina
Draft: Undrafted in 2004
College Highlights: Parker was criticized for being inconsistent in college, and he was also on the small side. UNC Coach John Bunting didn’t play him much after his first year. He entered the draft in 2004, but wasn’t drafted even though he could run the 40 in 4.21 seconds. He went to the Steelers as an undrafted free agent.
I love an underdog success story!

Here’s your AP Week Five Ranking - their positions last week are in parenthesis.
- Oklahoma (2)
- Alabama (8)
- LSU (5)
- Missouri (6)
- Texas (7)
- Penn State (12)
- Texas Tech (10)
- BYU (11)
- USC (1)
- South Florida (13)
- Georgia (3)
- Florida (4)
- Auburn (15)
- Ohio State (14)
- Utah (17)
- Kansas (18)
- Boise State (19)
- Wisconsin (9)
- Vanderbilt (21)
- Virginia Tech (NR)
- Oklahoma State (NR)
- Fresno State (25)
- Oregon (NR)
- Connecticut (NR)
- Wake Forest (16)
On the Cusp: Maryland, Michigan State, Kentucky, Ball State
Dropped from the Rankings: Clemson (20), Illinois (22), East Carolina (23), TCU (24)
Penn State thanks you, USC, for lose to a team they so gloriously beat a few weeks ago. Missouri just sat back and laughed this wee, and Oklahoma finally moved to the spot they deserve.
There are some lower rankings I question, especially with Maryland still at the unofficial #26, but I’m glad to see Oklahoma State on the list finally.
A team to watch? Northwestern. They aren’t even in consideration for a rank yet, and everyone says their schedule is super weak so they don’t deserve a spot even as 24 or 25, but they are undefeated, and I’ll be interested to see how they do against more difficult teams.

Historically, Purdue doesn’t do well against Notre Dame on the road. Historically, I enjoy making fun of ND quarterback Jimmy Clausen.
Some things never change.
Today, though, I’ll take a break and instead force myself to say three nice things about Clausen. My grandmother used
to make us do that when we fought - say three nice things about one another. So here you go, Mammy Boyer: three nice things about J-Claw:
ONE: He had a record day on Saturday. The fighting Irish has no turnovers, and his career-high 275 yards helped lead them to their 38-21 victory. For the record, Armando Allen, Jr. has a great day as well. Even Coach Charlie Weis was surprised at how he broke out this weekend.
TWO: Unlike some quarterbacks, Clausen carries himself well in interviews after the game. After throwing for three touchdowns, he told reporters,
“I know I’m capable of doing stuff like this, it was just a matter of time and preparation and practice.”
THREE: The new hair cut looks slightly less douche-like than the old one. Slightly.
You can read about the game here.
